Burt Reynolds, ‘Smokey and the Bandit,’ ‘Deliverance,’ and ‘The Cannonball Run’ actor dies at 82

Burt Reynolds, iconic television and film star, passed at 82 years of age this afternoon after going into cardiac arrest at a Florida hospital.

The actor first rose to stardom in television series Gunsmoke (1962–1965) and Dan August (1970–1971) and had a breakout role as Lewis Medlock in Deliverance, which attributed to a long-lived Hollywood career. His filmography includes such movies as The Longest Yard (1974), Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Hooper (1978) and Boogie Nights (1997), the latter film earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Reynolds was married to Judy Carne from 1963 to 1965 and to Loni Anderson (pictured above) from 1988 to 1993. He and Anderson adopted a son named Quinton. He also had a relationship from 1977 to 1982 with actress Sally Field (Forrest Gump, Steel Magnolias, Mrs. Doubtfire), who acted alongside him in Smokey and the Bandit.
