‘The Walking Dead’ star Jeffrey Dean Morgan adopted donkey and emu pair that ‘fell in love’ so they could stay together

As the famous Shakespeare quote from A Midsummer’s Night Dream goes, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.” The sentiment certainly applies to a pair of interspecific sweethearts, a male donkey named Jack and a female emu named Diane, who forged a powerful, unbreakable bond on an abandoned farm in South Carolina.

The emu and the donkey had been consoling one another, “possibly for years, when the owner suddenly vanished,” Jennifer Gordon, founder of non-profit wildlife organization Waterfowl Rescue told The Charlotte Observer.

“They like to cuddle and even sleep together… Where one goes, the other one follows,” Gordon continued. “We can’t separate them, so we need someone who is willing to adopt both a donkey and an emu. That may not be easy. We determined they were bonded when we tried to separate them. Also, Jack attacked another donkey who got near Diane. He is very protective of her.”

The little ditty ’bout Jack and Diane found its way to Jeffrey Dean Morgan through social media, when Gordon advertised the pair’s problematic circumstances. Luckily, The Walking Dead and Grey’s Anatomy was willing and able to answer the call.

Hey there… read the story… if you are looking for a forever home for jack and diane? Happy to take them, and keep them together at our farm. They would be a welcome addition to our menagerie of happy creatures. Xojd

“He just seemed like the perfect fit … He loves his animals, and he cares for them greatly,” Brown said. “I strongly felt that by allowing Jeffrey Dean Morgan to adopt them that it would take the publicity fear off the table. He definitely doesn’t need to adopt an animal to get publicity, and so I knew that would not be his motive in giving them a home.”

“Made me smile big. Love is an amazing thing,” Morgan tweeted after Jack and Diane were successfully transported to his farm in New York State’s Hudson Valley region, where the actor plans to let them continue their seemingly fated love story. “They spent the day exploring new digs… and I just tucked them in to bed with some berries for Diane, apple for Jack. Family is in love with its newest members.”

One last story about J&D. When they got here today… in a 3 or 4 stall trailer… Diane had crawled underneath the door separating them and rode for god knows how many hours, laying beneath/between Jacks legs. Made me smile big. Love is an amazing thing. Goodnight. ❤️
