Earlier today it was announced that rapper Travis Scott, whose most recent release, critically-acclaimed third album Astroworld was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, would be joining headliners Maroon 5 and Cardi B for the Super Bowl 53 Halftime Show.
That is, unless of course, rap icon and outspoken NFL objector Jay-Z is able to talk him out of it. Much like Rihanna, who turned the Super Bowl spot down earlier this year, Jay-Z is a staunch advocate of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, whom he believes has been treated unfairly in the wake of his 2016 National Anthem protests.
According to Variety:
Two sources also tell Variety that Jay-Z — who has been highly critical of the NFL over its treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — is attempting to talk Scott out of performing, although reps either declined comment or could not immediately be reached.
Should Travis Scott follow in Rihanna’s footsteps and decline to perform at Super Bowl 53?
