For those of you who think Reddit is nothing more than a wretched hive of scum and villainy and its users, Redditors, no more than a bunch of basement-dwelling bellyachers and ineffectual flunkees — you’re not entirely correct. This was recently evinced by a fundraiser for SameYou, a charity which seeks to improve rehabilitation services after brain injury and stroke for young adults, which started on Game of Thrones-oriented subreddit r/freefolk. The fundraiser has (as of this writing) recently reached £60,018 or $75,694.10 US dollars on JustGiving.com.
The SameYou charity, accompanied by the message “Honouring Emilia Clarke & her battle through 2 brain aneurysms to bring us Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, one of the most iconic characters in TV history. #ThankYouEmilia #WeStandByDaenerys” has become so successful that Daenerys Targaryen actress Emilia Clarke herself put together the following video rife with “thank yous” and adroit eyebrow movements:
Big ups to the users of r/freefolk and all those who contributed to the SameYou fundraiser. If you haven’t donated already and would like to, check out the Justgiving.com Fundraiser page, and/or head to the r/freefolk thread to see more charitable causes you can contribute to sponsored by Game of Thrones actors/actresses such as Lena Headey for the International Rescue Committee and Peter Dinklage for the Farm Sanctuary.
