Recent negotiations have strongly suggested Twilight star Robert Pattinson assuming the mantle of The Dark Knight in upcoming Matt Reeves’ (War for the Planet of the Apes Cloverfield) film The Batman; it won’t be Kristin Stewart as his love interest this time around, though.
Who will star as sultry, seductive, feline aficionado Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman opposite Pattinson’s version of The Dark Knight? High School Musical and Spring Breakers starlet Vanessa Hudgens, according to The BYO Show, who also broke the news in January about Pattinson being Batman.
The thirty-year-old Hudgens certainly has the look and athletic ability to represent Catwoman, although whether she’ll be more like Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway, or some really cool version we don’t even know about at this point is still up in the air. Given comments Reeves has made (per The Hollywood Reporter) regarding the direction of The Batman being a more noirish, detective-oriented tale steeped in the character’s comic book roots:
It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.
A narrative focus of Batman really putting in sleuth-work to tail a cat-burgling Catwoman sounds like it could be pretty amazing. Pattinson and Hudgens are rumored to be joined by others who have worked with Reeves as a director in the past, such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes actors Richard E. Grant as Alfred Pennyworth, Jason Clark as Thomas Wayne (Bruce’s father) Kerri Russell as Martha Wayne (Bruce’s mother) and Theo Rossi (of Cloverfield and Sons of Anarchy fame) as Bane.
