Universe and Blumhouse’s Halloween may be a sequel to the 1978 original but time hasn’t tempered the film’s zealous following; with an impressive $77.5 million dollar opening, the film sliced its way to the franchise’s best debut weekend of all time, the second highest October opening weekend of all time (second only to Sony’s Venom), and the highest ever for a horror movie with a female lead.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who reprises her role as Michael Myers’ arch-nemesis, Laurie Strode, for the fifth time, celebrated the accolade on Twitter:
OK. I’m going for one BOAST post. Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead.
Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55.
Second biggest October movie opening ever.
