An outspoken woman from New York with an unmistakable (some might say annoying) voice and outrageous fashion sense? Certainly a description that could fit both Bronx-born Cardi B and Fran Drescher’s Fran Fine character from The Nanny, a sitcom which ran on CBS from 1993 to 1999. So does that make Cardi B, arguably hip-hop’s most popular female hip hop artist a shoo-in for a Nanny reboot, were it to happen? Drescher thinks so; the 61-year-old actress told PeopleTV’s Chatter on Wednesday, “I wanna do a sitcom with Cardi B. Wouldn’t she be great as my daughter?”
The notion first occurred to Drescher after Cardi made an Instagram post garbed in Dolce Gabbana leopard print with the caption, “Fran Drescher in @dolcegabbana:”
“I was so flattered,” Drescher said of the “Girls Like You” singer’s outfit. “I just thought she paid homage to me wearing animal print and said ‘Fran Drescher.’ And then I got my creative juices flowing and thought, ‘Wait a minute, she’s from New York, we both have funny voices, she could be my daughter!’
Although there are currently no plans for The Nanny to be rebooted, Drescher has said in the past that she and ex-husband Peter Marc Jacob (who also co-created The Nanny) have discussed bringing the sitcom back to the small screen. “We’re talking about it. Peter and I are talking about it,” Drescher said in June. “We’re working on a very big project. It’s going to be very exciting for the fans, but I’m not at liberty to announce it yet. But it’s gonna be big.”
